Custom tattoos, fine line, black and grey, realism, colour, lettering, geometric, ornamental, illustrative, traditional, flash, large-scale, and cover-up work at Colorado Mills Mall (inside Phenix Salon Suites).
Synergy Body Art tattoos out of a Lakewood studio at Colorado Mills Mall (inside Phenix Salon Suites), and almost everything we do is custom. That means the design is built for your placement and your reference material instead of pulled off a wall — though flash is available when you want something designed and ready to go.
Resident artists cover a wide range of styles, so the first question at a consultation is usually which direction actually fits the idea. A portrait, a delicate floral, a script piece, and a half sleeve all ask for different approaches to line weight, contrast, and scale.
An original design developed with your artist from references, placement, and scale. Custom work suits anything meaningful, anything that has to fit a specific body area, or any idea that combines several references into one composition.
Thin, controlled linework for florals, small script, delicate symbols, and micro-detail. Fine line rewards restraint: fewer elements at a sensible size hold their clarity far better than a crowded miniature.
Built on value rather than colour — smooth grey washes, deep blacks, and contrast that shapes the image. It suits portraits, religious and Chicano-influenced imagery, lettering, and pieces meant to age with strong readability.
Photographic detail in skin, whether that's a portrait, an animal, a flower, or a religious subject. Realism needs high-quality reference images and enough room on the body for the detail to breathe.
Saturated palettes for illustrative, botanical, and graphic subjects. Colour choices are worth discussing against your skin tone and placement so the piece stays vivid as it settles and heals.

Lettering
Script, blackletter, and custom-drawn typography for names, dates, quotes, and single words. Legibility is everything: spacing, size, and placement decide whether the words still read cleanly in ten years.

Geometric Tattoos
Symmetry, repetition, and clean structure — mandalas, patterns, and linear compositions mapped to the contours of the arm, chest, back, or leg so the geometry doesn't fight the body.

Ornamental Tattoos
Decorative bands, filigree, jewellery-inspired detail, and pattern work that follows the body's shape. Ornamental pieces often read like adornment rather than a picture, and they layer well with existing work.

Illustrative Tattoos
Drawn, stylised imagery somewhere between realism and graphic art. A strong fit when you want something clearly hand-drawn — neo-traditional flowers, animals, characters, or narrative pieces.

Traditional Tattoos
Bold outlines, solid fills, and a limited palette. Traditional designs are built for long-term readability and are a safe direction if you want a tattoo that still looks intentional decades from now.

Flash Tattoos
Pre-drawn designs from the studio's current sheets, usually a faster path to getting tattooed. Ask what's available now and whether the design can be adjusted for your placement.
Sleeves, half sleeves, back pieces, thigh and chest projects planned across multiple sessions. Large work starts with a layout conversation: subject, flow, existing tattoos, and how much space the idea really needs.

Cover-Up Tattoos
Designs planned over existing tattoos. What's possible depends on how dark and how large the old piece is, so a consultation with clear photos comes before any design work.
Collect five to ten images you genuinely like. You're showing direction — subject, mood, line weight, contrast — not asking for a copy.
Think about placement first
Forearm, ribs, thigh, and hand all behave differently. Placement affects how much detail survives, how the design flows, and how it heals.
Be realistic about scale
Detail needs space. If the idea is dense, a slightly larger size usually looks better in five years than a cramped version does on day one.
Decide on colour early
Black and grey, full colour, and limited-palette work each change the design. It's worth settling before the drawing stage.
Let the artist weigh in
Artists know which of your references will actually hold up in skin. Their recommendation is part of what you're booking.
Consultation
Your tattoo consultation.
A consultation turns an idea into a plan. Nothing gets tattooed — you and the artist settle style, scale, placement, and what the project needs. Bring:
Bring your concept, even if it's unfinished.
Bring reference images — screenshots are fine.
Know roughly where on the body it's going.
Have an approximate size in mind, or be open to guidance.
Mention style preferences and anything you want to avoid.
Ask your questions: healing, sessions, layout, whatever's unclear.
Tattoo work at Synergy is handled by Carl, Luis, and Jonelle — covering custom design, consultation-led projects, illustrative and drawn-first pieces, linework, and fine line tattoos. Read through the artist pages to see whose approach lines up with your idea before you book.
The studio is at Colorado Mills Mall (inside Phenix Salon Suites) at 14500 W Colfax Ave in Lakewood, which puts it within a short drive of Golden, Wheat Ridge, Arvada, and West Denver. Clients from across the Denver metro use it as a convenient alternative to driving downtown, and mall parking removes the usual street-parking problem that comes with a tattoo appointment.
Being in a mall also makes longer sessions easier to plan around — food, breaks, and somewhere for whoever came with you to wait are all a few steps away. Studio hours run Tuesday through Saturday, 11AM to 8PM, and Sunday, 11AM to 6PM, so evening appointments after work are realistic on most days.
After your appointment, our tattoo aftercare guide walks through washing, healing stages, and what to avoid.

Tattoo FAQ
Do you accept tattoo walk-ins?
Yes, when an artist has an opening. Walk-in availability at our Lakewood studio changes day to day depending on which artists are in and how booked they are, so call 720-670-0827 before you drive over. Smaller pieces and flash suit walk-ins best. Custom work, cover-ups and larger projects should be booked through the tattoo booking link so an artist can set aside the right amount of time.
How do I book a tattoo consultation?
Use the Book Appointment button on any page and choose the tattoo option, or call the studio at 720-670-0827. Include your reference images, the placement, a rough size, and whether you have an artist in mind. That lets the studio send your request to the artist whose style fits the idea best, so your consultation is spent planning the design instead of starting from zero.
How should I prepare for my tattoo appointment?
Get a good night's sleep, eat a proper meal an hour or two before, and bring water and a snack for longer sessions. Skip alcohol beforehand and wear loose, comfortable clothing that gives your artist easy access to the placement. Arrive on time with valid ID. Our guide to preparing for a tattoo appointment covers everything else, including what to expect when you arrive.
How do I choose a tattoo artist?
Choose based on style, not just availability. Read each artist's profile on our Artists page, look at the specialties they list, and compare their work against your own idea, such as fine line, black and grey realism, lettering or illustrative work. Mention your preferred artist when you book. If another artist on the team is a better fit for the design, the studio will tell you honestly.
Can you help with tattoo cover-ups?
Yes. Every cover-up at Synergy Body Art starts with a consultation. The artist needs to see the existing tattoo in person or in clear, well-lit photos to judge how dark, dense and large it is. From there they will explain what is realistic, which usually means a larger, darker or more detailed design, before any drawing begins.
Do you offer custom tattoos?
Yes, most of the work at Synergy Body Art is custom. You bring the idea, references and placement, and your artist draws an original design built for your body, your size and the style you want. Custom work usually starts with a consultation so the artist can plan the composition, and you review the design before the tattoo begins.
